         ACTIVE WARFARE. WORK ON THE YILLAGE WAS BEGUN ON MARCH 1ST

         AND COMPLETED IN 15 WORKING DAYS BY IHE FIRST BATTALION AT

         AN APPROXIMATE STRENGTH OF 400 HEN.

         

              COMFLETED DETAILED PROJECIS WERE AS FOLLOWS: SEVEN

         EXISTING STRUCTURES HAULED IN AND REMODELED, 1WENTY-TWO

         STRUCTURES CONSTRUCTED AT THE SIDE STREETS, FENCES,

         SIDEWALLS ETC., INSTALLED AND THE SYSTEM OF FIELD

         FORTIFICATIONS COMPLETED.

         

             TOTAL EXPENDITURE FOR THE PROJECT WAS $868.55 INCLUDING

         MATERIALS AND HIRED EQUIPMENT.

         

              ON THE 21ST THE BULLDOZER BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATED THE

       19TH GENERAl HOSPITAL BY A SCORE OF 22 TO 5.

         

              CONSTRUCTION OF THE CAMP WHITE FORTIFICATION AREA

       STARTED ON THE 22ND. THIS WAS FIRST PROJECT USING THE

       WHOLE REGIMENT INCLUDING THE BAND AND MEDICS.

         

              ON THE 12TH CAPT GAVIN WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR.

         

              ON THE 22ND IHE FOLLOWING 2ND LTS WERE PROMOTED TO 1ST

         LTS: BELLOWS, SMITH, EVANS, HANTON, MATHESON, MANZER,

         WARNER, YANTIS, MAACK AND YAP. 

         

              ON 24TH LTS GRIFFIN AND SMALL WERE PROMOIED FROM 2ND

         LTS. TO 1ST LTS.

         

              THE 353RD ENGINEER BOXING TEAM WON THE CAMP WHITE

         TROPHY, OF EIGHT WEIGHT CLASSES THE BULLDOZERS PLACED FIRST

         IN FOUR.

         

              ON THE 27TH THE BULLDOZER BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATED THE

         1ST MEDICAL REGIMENT BY A SCORE OF 6 To 4.

         

              FOURTEEN ENLISTED MEN REPLACEMENTS ARRIVED ON THE 1ST

         FROM EUTC, CAMP CLAIBORNE, LA.

         

              ON THE 9TH ALISTAIR M SMITH, 1ST LT. M.C. JOINED THE

         REGIMENT FROM SCU 1901, FT DOUGLAS, UTAH AND ON THE 25TH

         CHARLES J H GALLAGHER, 1ST LT. C.E. JOINED FROM CAMP

         CLAIBORNE, LA.

         

              ON THE 8TH ROBERT A GREENMAN, CAPT M.C. WAS TRANSFERRED

         TO THE PASADENA AREA STATION HOSPITAL, PASADENA, CA.

         

              UNIT STRENGTH:  60 OFFICERS - 1299 ENLISTED MEN.

         

         APRIL 1943:

         

              ON THE 10TH THE BULLDOZER BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATED THE

         270TH ORDNANCE BY A SCORE OF 17 TO 3.
