              ON THE 24TH A REGIMENTAL TRACK AND FIELD MEET WAS HELD.

         COMPANY "F" CARRIED AWAY THE WINNERS TROPHY BY PLACING FIRST

         IN NINE OF TWELVE EVENTS.

         

              UNIT STRENGTH:  60 OFFICERS - 1316 ENLISTED MEN



         MARCH 1943:

         

              UNIT TRAINING PERIOD STARTED ON THE 3RD.

         

              ON THE 17TH THE BULLDOZER BASEBALL TEAM LOST TO THE 1ST

         MEDICAL REGIMENT BY A SCORE OF 11 TO 5.

         

              ON THE 20TH AT 1100 THE 1ST BATTALION WAS ASSEMBLED

         ADJACENT TO THE COMBAT VILLAGE, WITH THE BAND ON THE RIGHT

         FLANK, TO OFFICIALLY TURN THE VILLAGE OVER TO GENERAL

         THOMAS, COMMANDING GENERAL, CAMP WHITE. AS GENERAL THOMAS

         DESCENDED FROM HIS CAR, THE BAND SOUNDED THE RUFFLES AND

         FLOURISH AND THE BATTALION WAS BROUGHT TO PRESENT ARMS. THE

         BATTALION COMMANDER CAPTAIN DARYLL C SPEARS WAS PRESENTED TO

         THE COMMANDING GENERAL BY REGIMENTAL COMMANDER COLONEL

         WENDELL P TROWER. CAPTAIN SPEARS THEN CONDUCTED THE GENERAL

         AND HIS STAFF ON AN INSPECTION TOUR OF THE VILLAGE. AFTER

         THIS INSPECTION THE GENERAL IN AN ADDRESS TO THE TROOPS.

         ACCEPTED THE VILLAGE AND PRAISED THE WORK OF THE BATTALION.

         

              THE COMBAT VILLAGE WAS CONSTRUCTED AS A PERMANENT

         INSTALLATION TO THE CAMP WHITE RANGE GROUP FOR THE PURPOSE

         OF TRAINING TROOPS IN THE VARIOUS PHASES OF STREET FIGHTING,

         HOUSE CLEARING AND OTHER COMBAT PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN
