CIS 123 - MIS: Orientation
This week is set aside to help you become familiar with other students and
the basic workings of the course. Look around the course, ask questions, and
converse with other students in the discussion areas.
Objectives
- use Desire2Learn/Brightspace resources for this course
- use the discussion forum to communicate with other students
- obtain a copy of the syllabus
- find course information on syllabus
- find and use instructor's web site
Preliminaries
- Review syllabus (online)
- We will be using Microsoft Office 2010 or later to complete some of the assignments
in this course. Microsoft Works is NOT acceptable.
- There is no Microsoft Office text book for this course. See the syllabus
for recommendations if you want a text for learning MS Office 2010 or later.
The instructor can cover many questions about using productivity software
either in class, via the discussion forum, or by email - but you have to ask
questions for the instructor to know what to cover. Past experience
has shown that most students taking this course already know the basics of
word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. We can cover
specific topics on those applications as requested. There is usually
much less experience with database software, so we will discuss the use
of Microsoft Access in more detail.
- The midterm and final exams must be taken on campus. Availability of
testing in the LSC for the hybrid class will be announced via
Desire2Learn/Brightspace during the semester.
