Course Procedures:
- All students enrolled in an online course must attend the on-campus course
orientation or obtain a waiver from the instructor.
- Students are expected to participate in the online course throughout the semester
by keeping current with assignments, and by participating in online discussions
and other online activities.
- Use Officexp (2002) Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint to complete your assignments. Do not use any other
version of these software titles or any other software. The
textbooks contain directions specific to these versions. If you use
other software to complete the assignments, you may be unprepared
for the hands on exams.
- Since most of your assignments will be completed using a
computer, it is important that you back up your work on a regular
basis. Lost or ruined disks are not acceptable excuse for missed
deadlines. Occasionally, I may ask to use your back up disk to
grade your work.
- If you do not have a
computer at home with the necessary software, you will need to use
the computer lab. The lab schedule should be posted outside
the doors. Food and beverages are not permitted in
the lab. Lab assistants are sometimes
available to assist with technical problems. However, they
may not be able to help with questions about software operations
and/or assignments. The software covered in this class
Microsoft Officexp (Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint) should be available in any computer lab or in the
Learning Resources Center (Library) and the Learning Skills
Center. The Learning Skills Center is located in room A300
and provides specialized tutorial aid. The Learning Skills
Center also houses a computer lab which is available for limited
student use and testing purposes. For further information
about the Learning Skills Center, call 825-2086 ext. 388.
- The open lab schedule will be posted at the lab doors. The open lab has
traditionally been open from 8:00am to 9:30pm Monday through Thursday, and
from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Friday. Changes to that schedule and Saturday hours
should be posted to the course web site. Please email the instructor if you
do not see that information posted. Please note that food and beverages are
not permitted in Kishwaukee's computer labs.
- A familiarity with computers and the Windows operating system is expected.
- Assignments are to be turned in on time. Assignments which are not turned in on
time will not be accepted unless individual arrangements are made
in advance with the instructor.
- Cheating is wrong and can result in dire consequences. A student caught cheating is
subject to any combination of the following consequences: a score of 0 for the work in
question, a permanent lowering of grade in the course, a failing grade for the course,
and/or referral to the Vice President of Student Services for further disciplinary
action. If you can not complete an assignment, contact the instructor. Do NOT copy
from another student. It is NOT permissible to work together and turn in the same work.
Assignments which are deemed suspicious will be referred to another instructor or
IT professional. If that third party decides that there are improbable similarities
and cheating is likely, then cheating will be assumed. Absolute proof of cheating is
not required for the instructor to take action.
- Tests are to be taken at the dates and times specified. Failure to take a test at the
scheduled time may result in a grade of 0 for that test. In the case of an emergency
contact the instructor as soon as possible.
- Students are expected to show respect toward other students and their work. Behavior
inconsistent with this goal is NOT allowed in this course and is grounds for expulsion
from the course.
Emergency Procedures:
- Class cancellation due to inclement weather will be
announced on local radio stations; CALL the college at
(815) 825-2086 for the automated school cancellation information;
or you may also check the Kishwaukee College website at
www.kishwaukeecollege.edu.
- Class cancellations due to instructor absence will be
posted on the classroom door.
- Please note that normal class cancellations due to school closings do
NOT effect online classes - only your access to on-site resources. Also
note that posting an instructor absence on the classroom door makes no
sense in an online class. The preceding items are included because they
are required to appear on every Kishwaukee College syllabus.
College Withdrawal Policy:
A "W" will not be given as a final grade. The student is
responsible for officially withdrawing from the class according
to procedures described in the college catalog. Any student
that does not officially withdraw from the class will receive a letter grade.
Last date to withdraw is: April 22, 2005.
College Withdrawal Policy:
All course requirements must be completed by the end date
for the course. If there are extenuating circumstances which
merit granting a student more time to finish course
requirements, an incomplete grade ("I") may be given. To
receive an incomplete, an Incomplete Grade Contract Form must
be completed and approved. If the requirements are not
completed, the "I" may revert to an "F".
Graduation requirements for Transfer Degree Students:
There is one assessment requirement for graduates completing the
Associate of Arts, Associate of Fine Arts, Associate of Engineering
Science and/or the Associate of Science degrees. You are required
to submit a Degree Portfolio. Exact portfolio dates can be found in
the graduation requirements in the Kishwaukee College Portfolio
Development Handout. Specific information will be provided after
the application for graduation is processed.
Attendance Policy:
Class participation is strongly encouraged and part of
the grade for this class depends on it. Since this is an online class,
there is no graded attendance per se outside of participation and the
timely completion of assignments and tests.
Copyright:
As a Kishwaukee College Student, you may have copyright

Violation of copyright laws can lead to prosecution for a
criminal offense.
Tentative Weekly Schedule:
The tentative weekly schedule is available at
sched123sp05.html. Changes to this
schedule will be posted on the course home page and noted on the
schedule.
Final Exam:
The final exam for this course is scheduled for the week
of May 4 through May 9, 2005. It will be available at the Learning
Skills Center or by appointment with the instructor.
