Appendix H: CIS 123 Learning Objectives
The learning objectives listed below have been approved by the Kishwaukee
College CIS Department, CIS Advisory Committee, Kishwaukee College Career
Technology Division, and Kishwaukee College Curriculum Committee. The
syllabus as a whole has also been accepted as equivalent to BUS 902 by the
Illinois Community College Board through the Illinois Articulation Initiative.
Any changes except for minor rewordings for clarification purposes must be
approved by the CIS department (which will decide what further approval
is needed). This list is current as of June 8, 2004.
- Identify and describe the operations of complex business information
systems.
- Utilize basic systems analysis and design techniques to solve case
studies or management problems.
- Use the principles of filing and database concepts to solve
management problems involving a variety of computer systems and
operating systems.
- Analyze and evaluate business applications and prepare management
information using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and
presentation software packages on PCs.
- Identify the function of computer hardware and software, data
procedures, and personnel in a business information system and use those
concepts or functions in solving case studies.
- Identify computer concepts and explain how they relate to management
information systems.
- Identify and describe principles of data communications and Internet
access methods.
