                ALSO DOING WHAT COMMANDERS DO TO KEEP THEIR IDLE

                 TROOPS BUSY. PARADES, RETREAT PARADES AND SUCH.

         

       1 OCT 45 LEFT PANIQUI, TARLAC PROVINCE FOR WHITE BEACH ON

                 THE LINGUYEN GULF.

         

         OCT 45 70 POINTERS LEFT FOR HOME AND DISCHARGE.

         

                SIDE TRIPS TAKEN TO BAGIO. THE SUMMER CAPITAL.

         

                A PIPER CUB LANDED UPSIDE DOWN OFF SHORE AND THE

                 PILOT, UNHURT, STOOD CALF DEEP IN THE WATER

                 THINKING, "OH FECES".

         

       6 NOV 45 LEFT THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS FROM LINGUYEN GULF BY

                 WALKING UP THE RAMPS AND INTO ABOUT 11 LST SHIPS.

         

         NOV 45 ALL THE HEAVY EQUIPMENT HAD BEEN CHAINED SECURELY

                 YET WHEN WE RAN INTO SOME VERY ROUGH WEATHER MEN

                 WERE DEPLOYED THROUGHOUT THE STORM ON A CON-

                 TINUOUS WATCH TO MAKE CERTAIN EVERYTHING REMAIN-

                 ED FASTENED DOWN.

         

                THE FOOD ABOARD THESE NAVY VESSELS WAS THE BEST WE

                 HAD ENJOYED FOR YEARS.

         

                SAILED PAST OKINAWA AND THE RYUKYU ISLANDS

         

                DURING THE NIGHTS BEFORE ARRIVING AT OUR DESTINA-

                 TION, WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD BE GOING THRU A

                 MINED AREA. THERE MAY STILL BE FREE FLOATING

                 MINES THAT HAD NOT BEEN SWEPT. WE WERE TO WEAR

                 A LIFE JACKET DURING THE ENTIRE NIGHT.

         

      14 NOV 45 BEACHED THE LST’S IN SASEBO HARBOR, KYUSHU, JAPAN.

         

      16 NOV 45 TRAVELED BY CONVOY TO ZASHANAKUMA, OUTSIDE FUKUOKA
