                      AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL

            By direction of the President, under the provisions of
Executive Order No. 9419, 4 February 1944 (Sec. II, Bull. No. 3, W.D.,
1944), and pursuant to authority contained in AR 600-45, (Decorations),
22 September 1943, as amended by Changes No. 3, 25 April 1944, a Bronze
Star Medal is awarded by the Commanding General, Headquarters Island
Command, APO 709, to the following named officer:

            COLONEL WENDELL P. TROWER, 0-012061, Corps of Engineers,
      United States Army, for the performance of meritorious service
      in support of military operation against the enemy at Guadalcanal,
      Solomon Islands, from 1 september 1944 to 20 April 1945.  Home
      Address:  Portland, Oregon.
