                       COLONEL WENDELL P. TROWER.

WENDELL P. TROWER, (0-12061), Colonel, Corps of Engineers,
United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in
the performance of outstanding service as commander of a con-
struction regiment on an island base in the South Pacific Area
from 1 June 1943 to 1 July 1944. Faced, upon arrival, with
numerous urgent projects, Colonel Trower immediately and en-
thusiastically undertook his mission, bringing to it a wealth
of knowledge and superior professional ability. Undismayed by
adverse weather conditions, lack of supplies, shortage of
equipment and everchanging plans, he accomplished his allotted
tasks without delay. Because of his demonstrated administrative
ability, he was put in command of a unified construction group
which rapidly became an efficient, smooth-functioning unit. As
Deputy Engineer for Supply in the Solomons area, he solved many
and diverse problems which materially advanced the war effort
in this theater.
