4 Site Structure

The internal structure of this web site is controlled by the WebCT application and may be considerably different than it appears to users. The diagrams and listings in this section of the design document will specify how the perceived structure is intended to appear to the designer and to students. This should result in a vendor neutral design which could then be translated to another system (with considerable effort) if the need arises.

4.1 Site Structure Listing

This listing represents how the site is arranged hierarchically. Subitems in the listing represent linked pages.

4.3 Global and Local Navigation Systems

The global navigation, which will be available at all times as the "course menu", is designed to be in a persistent vertically-oriented panel on the left edge of the browser window. The global navigation elements are determined by the site structure which has already been defined. There will also be WebCT system wide navigation links placed horizontally across the top of the window, and possibly breadcrumb navigation placed horizontally directly below the WebCT navigation. Local navigation will be of concern mainly in the lecture material and may vary depending upon what materials are created. For that reason, local navigation elements will not be pre-defined here.
